Eileen Grossman was a delegate to the 2016 Republican National Convention from Rhode Island. She served on the Rules Committee of the convention in July 2016. At that time, she was a supporter of Donald Trump.[1] Grossman was a Republican candidate for District 27 of the Rhode Island State Senate. The primary election was on September 14, 2010, and the general election was on November 2, 2010.
Career
Eileen Grossman is the assistant to the finance director of Cranston, Rhode Island, and a former small business owner in Providence, Rhode Island.[2] Grossman also serves as the secretary for the Cranston Republican Party.[3]
Prior to working extensively in the state and local parties, Grossman owned a small jewelry manufacturing company, Dress Up, Inc. According to The Indy, Grossman inherited the company from her father, who started it in 1948, but the business was relocated in 2006 when Providence underwent development. Grossman told the magazine that the relocation was "the final nail in the coffin" for her business. Shortly after Dress Up, Inc. closed, Grossman began volunteering with the Republican Party of Rhode Island and working with the Rhode Island Tea Party.[4]
In 2010, Grossman unsuccessfully challenged state Sen. Hanna Gallo (D). [5] In 2012 she co-chaired the state party's "strike force," a group of volunteers for Republican candidates to the Rhode Island House of Representatives. She told the Cranston Herald that the task force was a response to what the party saw as narrow losses in 2010, saying, "We are sick and tired of almost making it to the dance. We are going to be at the dance this time."[6]

Grossman was a member of the RNC Rules Committee, a 112-member body responsible for crafting the official rules of the Republican Party, including the rules that governed the 2016 Republican National Convention.[7]
Appointment process
The convention Rules Committee in 2016 consisted of one male and one female delegate from each state and territorial delegation. The Rules of the Republican Party required each delegation to elect from its own membership representatives to serve on the Rules Committee.
Comments on potential rules changes
In a June 24, 2016, article in Politico, Grossman commented that she did not support rules changes to unbind delegates at the convention. She said, "I have not been contacted by anyone to undermine the rules as set or for any plans to unbind delegates. ... I happen to be a Trump Delegate but if I were not I still would have no part in taking the nomination from a man who has received more Republican primary votes in history. We are standing by the will of the people and their vote and their vote clearly was for Donald J. Trump and not a career politician."[1]
Elections
2010
Grossman was defeated by incumbent Democrat Hanna Gallo in the general election on November 2, 2010. She was unopposed in the September 14 Republican primary.[8]
