Poll: Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton finish with historically poor images
Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton have the worst election-eve images of any presidential candidates that Gallup has measured back to 1956, according to the polling company.
The poll found 61 percent of people in the U.S. said they view Trump, the Republican presidential nominee, unfavorably, which Gallup said is the worst score in presidential polling history.
Fifty-two percent said they view Clinton unfavorably, which Gallup said is the second-worst score. The third worst score was when 47 percent viewed then-GOP presidential nominee Barry Goldwater unfavorably in 1964. In 2012, 43 percent said they viewed GOP presidential nominee Mitt Romney unfavorably.
In terms of highly unfavorable ratings, 42 percent said they view Trump that way and 39 percent said they view Clinton that way.
No presidential candidate since Ronald Reagan in 1984 has ended a presidential campaign with a favorable rating above 70 percent, Gallup said.
The poll was released as voters head to the polls to cast their ballots in the 2016 election.
The latest poll surveyed 1,033 adults between Nov. 2 and 5 with a 4 percentage point margin of error.
